Denver to buy Crossroads Theatre in Five Points

Written on December 15, 2009

The City and County of Denver plans to buy the Crossroads Theatre in the Five Points neighborhood from owner/operator Kurt Lewis for an undisclosed amount.

The city's Division of Theatres and Arenas hopes to take over the space as early as January 2010. The division will look for community input, through public meetings, on how the space will be used.

The 100-seat venue is located at 2590 Washington St.

The Crossroads Theatre has been home to small, independent performing arts groups since 2007. Offerings at the theater have included the 5 Points Jazz Festival, Denver Experimental Film Festival and plays such as "Women with Guns" by Kurt Lewis.

The theater also offers workshops and classes, such as continuing legal education classes for lawyers.

"Since its opening, the Crossroads has hosted poetry, music, theater, film, dance, visual art, storytelling, lectures and community meetings for all cultures in the city," Lewis said in a statement saving account pay day loan. "I am excited to see [the Division of Theatres and Arenas] take the baton, so that Crossroads can continue to provide an intimate, affordable venue for Denver's artists and performers."

All currently scheduled events at the theater will take place as planned, according to the city. Information about those events is available on the Crossroads' website, www.denvercrossroads.com. Information about upcoming public meetings regarding the theater's future use will be posted on the site.

Denver's theaters and arenas division also operates the Denver Performing Arts Complex, Red Rocks Amphitheatre, the Colorado Convention Center and the Denver Coliseum.
